Set up an Instagram Business account
A personal Instagram account can post, but it cannot do the things a business needs: publishing through official tools, audience insights, contact buttons, and ads. Switching to a professional account is free, takes ten minutes, and changes none of your existing posts or followers.
What you need
- An Instagram account (create one in the app with your business email if you are starting fresh).
- A Facebook Page for your business. Instagram business features run on Meta's business systems, and the Page is the anchor. If you do not have one yet, follow our Facebook Page guide first.
Switch to a professional account
- In the Instagram app, open your profile and the menu in the top right.
- Go to Settings, then Account type and tools, and choose Switch to professional account.
- Pick Business (choose Creator only if you are a person, not a company — Business unlocks the full toolset).
- Select the category that best matches what you do; it shows on your profile.
- When asked, connect your Facebook Page and log in with the Facebook account that has full control of it.
Set the profile up properly
- Name and username: the name field is searchable — include what you do ("Verdant Coffee | Copenhagen roastery"), keep the username clean.
- Bio: one line on what you offer and for whom, one line of proof or personality, and where you are. Add your booking or shop link.
- Profile photo: your logo mark, readable at thumbnail size.
- Contact options: add email, phone and address so the contact buttons appear.
Connect it to Huuve
Open Connections in Huuve, press Connect next to Instagram, and sign in with the Facebook account that manages your Page. Pick the Instagram account, approve the permissions, and you are done — Huuve starts syncing your posts and results, and new drafts wait for your approval. The full walkthrough with fixes lives in Connect Instagram to Huuve.
If something fails
- No Business option: your app is outdated, or the account is already professional — check the account type under Settings.
- The Facebook Page does not appear: you are logged into the wrong Facebook account, or you only have partial access to the Page. Full control is required.
- Insights are empty: they start collecting from the switch onward; give it a few days of posting.
